Some browsers (Safari and Brave in Private mode) remove gclid and msclkid from the address of the landing page. Without the click ID a conversion cannot be linked to the ad click, and Smart Bidding gets less data. Click ID Restorer brings the ID back, in your server container.
How it works
- In your ad account you add a backup parameter that carries the same click ID, for example
mygclid={gclid}. The landing address then has bothgclidandmygclid. - If the browser removes
gclid, mygclidis still there. - The FlyNode Click ID Restorer variable, in your server container, sees that
gclidis missing and turnsmygclidback intogclidin the page address. Ifgclidis there, nothing changes. The rest of the address stays exactly as it was.
It restores an ID that the browser removed. It cannot create one that was never in the address, so the backup parameter must be set up first.
Set it up
- Google Ads: Admin, Account settings, Tracking, Final URL suffix:
mygclid={gclid}. Save. (Pick any name you like, letters, numbers, dots, dashes and underscores. Do not call itgclid.) - Microsoft Ads: add
mymsclkid={msclkid}to the final URL suffix in the same way. - In FlyNode open your container, go to Power-Ups, turn on Click ID Restorer, type the same names and press Save changes. Your container restarts once and from then on receives the names in a request header (
x-flynode-click-ids). - Download the FlyNode Click ID Restorer template from the power-up. In your server container open Templates, Variable Templates, New, the three-dot menu, Import.
- Create a variable of that type. Return can be the page URL with the click IDs restored, the Google click ID or the Microsoft click ID.
- Use the variable where the click ID is read: as the page location of your Google Ads, Microsoft Ads and GA4 tags (the tags read
gclidandmsclkidfrom the page address), or where a tag takes the click ID directly.
Test it
- Open the server container in Preview.
- On your site, open a page with only the backup parameter:
https://yoursite.com/?mygclid=test123. - In Preview open the request and the variable: it shows
https://yoursite.com/?gclid=test123.
Good to know
- Works on every plan.
- Turning it on, off, or changing a name restarts the container once.
- If you type the names into the template itself, they are used instead of the saved ones.
