Stape alternatives, priced side by side

Four ways to host your server-side Google Tag Manager container somewhere other than Stape, plus one that skips GTM. Prices from each company's own page, and where each one beats us.

The short answer

  • FlyNode (Managed sGTM hosting (this site)): Small and mid-size stores that want low flat prices from 500K to 5M requests, and teams in South Asia that want a Dhaka server or bKash.
  • TAGGRS (Managed sGTM hosting): Teams that want bigger allowances per tier and a 10M plan from a European company.
  • Addingwell (Managed sGTM hosting): The biggest free plan on this list, and very high volumes up to 100M requests.
  • Google Cloud (self-hosted) (Run Google's server container yourself): Teams with an engineer who wants full control and is happy to run it.
  • Tracklution (Server-side tracking without GTM): Store owners who do not want to manage GTM containers at all.

Stape itself: free up to 10,000 requests, Pro $20 (500K), Business $100 (5M), Enterprise $200 (20M), billed monthly, with up to 20 domains on Business and 50 on Enterprise.

Google Cloud is billed by usage and Tracklution counts events, not requests, so neither fits this table. Addingwell is in euros; the others in US dollars.

The alternatives

Each one, honestly

What it is, what it costs, who it suits and what to watch for.

Managed sGTM hosting (this site)

FlyNode

Free, then $15 to $75 a month per container

  • Up to 5 free containers with 15,000 requests each
  • Pro $15 (500K), Business $45 (2M), Enterprise $75 (5M)
  • Connect Google Tag Manager in one click, or paste the container config
  • Your own tracking subdomain with SSL, Custom Loader and a live request meter
  • 3 regions: North America, Europe and Dhaka (BDIX); pay by card, PayPal or bKash

Best for: Small and mid-size stores that want low flat prices from 500K to 5M requests, and teams in South Asia that want a Dhaka server or bKash.

Watch for: The largest plan is 5M requests a month, and FlyNode is younger than the other names here.

Managed sGTM hosting

TAGGRS

Free, then $26 to $152 a month billed monthly

  • Free plan up to 10,000 requests
  • Basic 750K, Pro 3M, Ultimate 10M, then Enterprise
  • Its own servers spread over several locations, not Google's cloud
  • Data stops being sent when you pass your limit unless you upgrade

Best for: Teams that want bigger allowances per tier and a 10M plan from a European company.

Watch for: Above your request limit, events stop flowing until you upgrade, so watch the meter.

Managed sGTM hosting

Addingwell

Free, then from €90 a month

  • Free plan up to 100,000 requests
  • €90 (1M), €120 (5M), €210 (12M), up to €1,190 (100M)
  • Extra requests billed per 100K at the end of the month
  • Add-ons: extra container €30, domain €10, region €20 a month

Best for: The biggest free plan on this list, and very high volumes up to 100M requests.

Watch for: The first paid plan starts at €90, so small paid sites pay more than with the others.

Run Google's server container yourself

Google Cloud (self-hosted)

Pay for what you use

  • Cloud Run or App Engine in your own Google Cloud project
  • You set up the service, domain, SSL, scaling and logging
  • Full control of regions and resources

Best for: Teams with an engineer who wants full control and is happy to run it.

Watch for: The bill follows usage and the setup and upkeep are yours. Price it with Google's calculator before you switch.

Server-side tracking without GTM

Tracklution

Free up to 5,000 events, Grow €39.20 a month billed yearly

  • Its own tracking platform; Google Tag Manager is optional
  • Plug-ins for Shopify, WooCommerce and Stripe
  • Limits are counted in events, not requests

Best for: Store owners who do not want to manage GTM containers at all.

Watch for: It replaces your GTM server setup instead of hosting it, so your tags and triggers do not move across.

How to choose

Four questions decide it

  1. How many requests a month? Check your Stape usage page. Under 5 million, compare the table above; over 10 million, look at TAGGRS, Addingwell or Stape's own Enterprise plan.
  2. Do you want to keep GTM? If yes, any host that runs Google's server container keeps your tags as they are. If you would rather not manage GTM at all, look at Tracklution.
  3. Who will run it? A managed host does the server, SSL and scaling. Google Cloud gives you control but the upkeep is yours.
  4. Where are your shoppers, and how do you pay? Pick a region close to them. FlyNode has a Dhaka (BDIX) region and takes bKash as well as cards and PayPal.

FAQ

Good questions, short answers

Questions about moving off Stape. More? Email hello@flynode.io.

  • It depends on your volume. At 500,000 requests a month FlyNode Pro is $15 against Stape's $20. For the biggest free allowance, Addingwell's free plan covers 100,000 requests. Above 5 million requests FlyNode has no plan, and TAGGRS Ultimate ($152 for 10M) or Stape Enterprise ($200 for 20M) fit better.
