WordPress Troubleshooting on FlyNode

A white screen, a stuck maintenance page, a lock-out, a forgotten login address or a rolled-back update: what to do.

2 min readUpdated Oct 10, 2026

The site shows a white screen or a critical error

Usually a plugin or theme. Open the app's Logs to find the last error, then turn the plugin off in the terminal: wp --allow-root plugin deactivate plugin-name (see the WP-CLI cookbook). If it started right after a push from staging, restore from the Last push card (see Staging and Push to Production).

The maintenance page does not go away

Updates and pushes show a maintenance page for a moment. If a page keeps showing it, wait a minute, because the page cache can keep serving a cached copy for a short while. If WordPress itself is stuck in maintenance mode, run wp --allow-root maintenance-mode deactivate in the terminal.

An update was rolled back

That is the safety net working: the update broke the site's start-up, so FlyNode restored the backup. Your site is as it was. The message names the reason. Update the plugins one at a time, on the staging copy first, to find the one that does not work with your setup.

I cannot sign in

  • Locked out after wrong passwords. The lock ends by itself (30 minutes by default). Or use 1-Click WP-Admin on the app page, which does not use the login page. To avoid it in future, add your address to the allow list.
  • Lost the phone with two-factor. Use a recovery code at the login form. If you have none, use 1-Click WP-Admin, then press Turn off for that user under Sign-in, Two-factor sign-in, Manage users, and set it up again.
  • Forgot the secret login address. Use 1-Click WP-Admin, then switch the secret login address off under Sign-in. See Sign-in Protection.

Visitors (or I) see "Access denied" or "Checking your browser"

  • "Access denied" or "Access from your country is not allowed". Your address or country is on the block list. Change it under Security, Firewall, add your address to Always allow these addresses, and press Apply to site. The dashboard is never affected by these blocks.
  • "Checking your browser". Under Attack mode is on. Turn it off under Security, Under Attack, or wait: it ends by itself. See Firewall, Blocking and Under Attack Mode.
  • A request was blocked by the firewall by mistake. The Activity log shows what was refused and why. Add your address to the allow list while you work, or switch the firewall off and tell us what was blocked.

The site is slow

See Resource Usage and Choosing the Right Plan. Also check whether the country block or Under Attack mode is on: both turn the page cache off.
